The inspiration for the Ant Circus came from a colony of ants that took over one of my houseplants.  I tried to re-house them and train them to perform like a flea circus but this proved considerably more difficult than I thought.  Although the live ants failed, I kept the ant idea because I liked that they were everyday and communal.
